FAQ

Although some of these questions are not necessarily 'frequent', we feel that it is important to include them.  If you don't see an answer to your question here, please contact us, and we will be sure to respond quickly.

Q.  What is Secret Anthem?

A.  Secret Anthem is community of fellow musically creative people, and the place for you to get your music heard by some of today’s most popular Christian artists and producers who have the desire to give you experienced counsel on what will take your song to the next level with a uniquely personal, detailed, and concise review of your song.  On top of that, there is the possibility of getting your music published, a record/development deal, and/or to get your song recorded by these same artists for the world to hear!

Q.  Why does it cost money to submit a song?!

A.  There are a few reasons, actually.  The first is that we have costs that we need to cover on our end.  Secret Anthem is not here to take everyone's money and get rich off of it!  Instead, a chunk of our review goes into business development, administrative costs (mainly operating the site and service), preparing for next year's showcase in Nashville (featuring some of the artists/bands that submitted songs), and 20% going back into ministries and charities (in the Passion Projects section).

Most importantly, however, we wanted to keep the cost lower than what we have seen associated with what it normally takes to get your music heard (hopefully), and wanted to make sure that we come with a guarantee and keep our promise.

Finally, we want to make sure that those who are submitting music are serious about what they are doing, and consider this as an investment in their musical pursuit.  There is a great value to what we are offering.

We will also have promotions and specials happening every so often for you to take advantage of as well.  So make sure you are a member to get the emails!

Q.  Why should I pay for this?  These artists and producers should be happy to hear great new music from their fans!

A.  We'll keep this answer simple so we don't offend anyone.  We all need to work to make a living, support our families, pay bills, and enjoy life.  This is work for all of us involved - you the song submitter, the artists and producers who are counseling you and reviewing your music, and us who are facilitating the service and creating this opportunity.  We would not dare to ask anyone to work for us for free when we wouldn't be able to do it ourselves.  On top of that, there are a lot of songs that come in every day, and it takes quite a bit of time to give you the response that you deserve.

Q.  What happens if I only have lyrics and no music?

A.  While we don't have the option to upload only lyrics (yet), we'd encourage you to do a basic recording of yourself (or someone else) reading the lyrics, and uploading that.  The reason for this, is because some of the mentors will listen to the upload immediately, and read the attachment when the get stationary.  Some of our mentors will listen to the submissions while in transit, so this gives them more opportunities to pay close attention to your work.

Q.  If I submit a song, how long does it take to get the review and counsel back?

A.  The standard length of time is less than 60 days, however, it may take less than 90 days to get the review back, based on our mentors being on the road, in the studio, or tending to previous obligations.  The only reason why we set the 60-day guideline, is to give the mentors a good chance to listen to your submission while they are on the road touring, in the studio recording, or simply taking a breather from their hectic lives.  In the majority of cases (87%), songs are reviewed and returned to you in a much shorter time period (less than 30 days)

Q.  Why should I use Secret Anthem when I could do it myself?

A.  If you can get your music into the hands of, and reviewed by, some of today’s top artists and producers in the Christian music industry, then GO FOR IT!!!  We don’t assume that we are the only way to get things done.  Instead, we are the only place that can guarantee it at this caliber of experience and artistry on a regular basis.

Q.  Can I choose who will review my song and give me counsel?

A.  In the submission process, you can specify who you would like to review your song.  However, we can’t guarantee it because of the volume of songs that come through our service. We can promise, however, that we will make every effort to accommodate your request.  With this in mind, please remember that all of our mentors offer a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be sure to help you on your journey.  Also, most of our mentors know each other well, so there is a good chance your music will be heard by a few of them!

Q.  Will you be adding more mentors to the list?

A.  YES!  We will most definitely be adding more mentors to our list.  In fact we meet regularly to discuss which artists and producers would be a good fit for what we do.

Q.  How do I get my song to be the Song of the Week?

A.  Sorry, but our selection committee decides on the Song of the Week each week.  Their criteria is a mix of different things, including simply if they like it and think that the Secret Anthem community would like it as well.
